With the World Cup getting into full swing, it seems like the world – both on and off social media – can’t get enough of The Beautiful Game. Even Twitter is having trouble keeping up with the excitement. Here’s what’s hot in social media for the past week:

  • Mashable has a guide on how to follow the World Cup on Twitter and Fast Company looks at Twitter’s World Cup micro site.
  • Also, ABC News looks how social media has evolved from the 2002 World Cup to now
  • Fast Company has suggestions on how non-profits can use social media
  • Some case studies on how CEOs are using social media to create real results – via Mashable

In social media upgrades this week:

  • Twitter is introducing Twitter Places, where you can tag your tweets with specific locations, similar to Foursquare
  • YouTube is testing a News Feed feature this summer with a stream of breaking news videos
