The Reference Desk for August 17, 2010
Here are some of the great stories I came across in social media over the past week. I’m sad to say that this will be my last official Reference Desk blog post, but I’ll be continuing to tweet cool social media links and news, so please follow me on Twitter.
- Mashable brings more great lists with some tools to track Twitter unfollowers, some tools help you reserve names on social media sites and 15 excellent corporate blogs
- Brian Solis has a couple great posts about influence in social media. He talks about the gender divide in social networks and the difference between influence and popularity
- Twitter keeps bringing the enhancements this week. Now they provide the ability to follow without having an account and official tweet sharing buttons – via Mashable
- Flowtown has produced an updated “map” of social networking today – quite a difference to the “map” from 2007. Check them both out via the Huffington Post
- For companies doing good things in social media, how about Delta Airlines giving customers the ability to buy tickets on Facebook; the goals behind Pepsi’s social media campaigns; or how Abercrombie & Fitch are embedding social media in every customer touchpoint.
- Finally, Mashable has a post on the future of public relations and social media. What do you think is the future? How is social media changing the PR industry?
